We’re delighted to announce that Freddie’s Grandad, Steve, loved running the London marathon so much earlier this year that he is going to be taking part again at the 2018 event on Sunday 22nd April……………..he must be mad! 🙂
Last time he raised approximately £4500 for The Air Ambulance but in 2018, he will be representing Freddie’s Wish as he was successful in securing a place in the race via the public ballot.
Steve said ‘I loved everything about the experience including the training, well most of it! The crowds on race day were phenomenal and they certainly give you a boost when your body starts to hurt.
I was determined to enjoy every minute and I certainly did. I truly felt as though Freddie was with me every step of the way and I felt a huge sense of pride at completing the marathon in his memory.
As soon as I finished the race, I said that I wanted to enter the 2018 race and I’m thrilled to have got a ballot place. I will be following the same 6 month training programme that I used last time in the hope that it gets me round in one piece again. This means that my training starts officially on 23rd October which would have been Freddie’s 4th Birthday. I hope that’s a sign that he’ll be watching out for his Grandad again!’
We will be setting up a sponsorship page nearer the time so please keep an eye out for this.
In the meantime, good luck with the training Steve! 🙂
