Bereavement Support

Bereavement support for those who have lost a child

At Freddie’s Wish, we are passionate about bereavement support and counselling being accessible to all and, as such, we are delighted to be able to offer bereavement support through two different services.

GriefChat

We understand the waiting list for Bereavement Counselling can be quite long in some parts of the country, which is why we work with GriefChat to give you the opportunity to speak with a professional, experienced and fully-qualified bereavement counsellor immediately through instant chat, free of charge Monday – Friday 09:00 – 21:00.

GriefChat follow our shared understanding of bereavement, especially baby and child loss and have helped thousands of bereaved people to begin to put their loss into words and help them to make sense of what has happened to them. The chat box will pop up automatically on this page within those opening hours and invite you to have a conversation, should you need to speak to someone. This support is fully funded by Freddie’s Wish so will be free to anyone using the service.

SafeSpace

We are delighted to announce that we are now offering two levels of virtual bereavement support (delivered via Zoom) in partnership with trained bereavement counsellor, Helen Clarke ( https://safespacesussex.co.uk/). This support is fully funded by Freddie’s Wish so will be free to anyone using the service.

Helen is a fully qualified bereavement counsellor who has a special interest in neonatal & postnatal loss and working with parents who have suffered the trauma of child death. The support we are offering is for any parent, carer,  grandparent, auntie or uncle who has lost a baby or child at any age including miscarriage and stillbirth and we are happy to deliver support to you alone or as a couple if that feels more appropriate.

The two available support packages are:

0-2 years following death

Wellbeing and Bereavement Support:

  • For those who are 0-2 years after the death of a baby or child
  • 6 sessions maximum (including an initial assessment session)
  • These sessions will provide initial guidance and support on how to navigate the emotions of early grief.

Through our own personal experience and the expertise of Helen, we know that the first two years after the death of a baby or child is a time of raw grief, when emotions are overwhelming and the natural grieving process needs to take place. So, this early stage support is designed to help you to know what is ‘normal’ during this time and to give you the tools to navigate these emotions.

If you feel that you could benefit from this support, please complete the enquiry form below to be referred to Helen at Safe Space Sussex for fully funded sessions to help to navigate you through your bereavement journey.

Please be aware that there may be a waiting list to access this support depending on demand. However, if this is the case, this will be communicated to you as soon as your referral has been made.

2+ years following death

Specialist Bereavement Counselling:

  • For those who are more than two years after the death of a baby or child
  • 12 sessions maximum (Including initial assessment session)
  • Full counselling support to navigate how to start to rebuild your life around the bereavement of your baby or child.

After the first two years after suffering the death of a baby or child, people are generally able to start to explore ways of rebuilding their lives around their bereavement.

Therefore, it is at this stage that more thorough counselling can be pursued.

If you feel that full counselling support may be suitable for you, then please complete the enquiry form below, to be referred to Helen at Safe Space Sussex for fully funded sessions to help to navigate you through your bereavement journey.

Please be aware that there may be a waiting list to access this support depending on demand. However, if this is the case, this will be communicated to you as soon as your referral has been made.
